Whispertree Retreats — Boonville, California
(Formerly Bell Valley Retreat Center & The Toll House)
Client Brief
Tucked into the heart of Anderson Valley, Whispertree Retreats is a place where transformation takes root. Formerly known as the Toll House and Bell Valley Retreat Center, this 600-acre property offers a sanctuary for gathering, slowing down, and reconnecting — with nature, with others, and with oneself. The property owner brought a clear and considered vision to this collaboration, with specific aesthetic sensibilities that shaped every element of the work. The project evolved over time, with an initial suite of illustrated maps later revisited and updated to reflect new branding and the addition of active ecological restoration points across the property.
Project Scope
Illustrated Maps
The retreat center required two distinct illustrated maps: a trail map to guide guests through the expansive property, and an accommodation map to orient visitors upon arrival. The trail map was thoughtfully designed with built-in flexibility — select key entries were intentionally left unlisted on the map itself, allowing numbered points to shift as the property's ecological projects continue to grow and evolve.
Individual Map Elements
Each point of interest featured across both maps was painted as a standalone illustration, providing the client with a versatile library of assets for use in future projects, print materials, and digital applications.
Deliverables
High-quality, print-ready PDF files of all professionally photographed original illustrations, delivered across two rounds — the initial map suite, followed by updated versions reflecting the center's rebranding and the integration of new ecological restoration points.
